Kokanee Dodger Blanks
Kokanee dodgers can make a huge difference in kokanee fishing. They will attract the fish and then trigger them to bite. If you have been around kokanee fishing for a while you know that these lures and other gear are not cheap, especially dodgers. Buying the kokanee dodger blanks and putting the hooks on yourself can save you a lot more than buying them individually. This can add up fast when you are rigging multiple rods with flashers, dodgers and corn scented lures. It does not have to be expensive though. You can make your own at a fraction of the cost!
I’ve been fishing for kokanee for years. Frankly, I’m obsessed. I write for a kokanee fishing website after all. I’ve spent way more than most on kokanee fishing gear. Take it from me, the top of the line stuff is nice, convenient, and it works, but you can make your own gear as well, and I’ve been able to really dial in some nice kokanee dodgers for my local kokes off of these blanks.

Using Kokanee Dodger Blanks
When kokanee fishing, dodgers play a major role in attracting fish. They add flash and vibration that can bring fish in from a distance. Kokanee Dodgers come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Typically, they are used with flasher blades or hoochies. There are many different dodger brands available on the market today, but if you want to save some money and customize your own dodgers, make sure you get the right blanks.
The first thing you will want to look for when buying blanks is the shaft length and diameter. You want your shaft to be long enough to hold the lure or bait of your choice. The diameter of the shaft should match your line size as well as the snap swivels you plan to use. If you are planning on trolling for kokanee at high speeds, you will also want a thinner profile blank with a blade size between 3 and 4 inches long that will not create too much drag in the water.
You can put together a DIY homemade kokanee dodger for about 1/4 the price of store bought. Buying dodger blanks in bulk allows you to try out many different styles and experiment with many different patterns, colors, and materials to dial in your perfect kokanee rig.
There are lots of options for how to do colors and designs and patterns on your kokanee dodger blanks. Below is a video of a fellow that uses glow powders on his blanks with some pretty cool results.
