Kokanee Hoochies
Hoochie Lures for Kokanee
Hoochies are a type of soft bait that is used for fishing. Most commonly they’re a hollow silicone squid type lure, but there are also silicone shrimp hoochies on the market as well. Trout, bass, and other fish all can respond well to the presentation, but kokanee salmon especially love hoochies. Hoochie lures work well for kokanee because they’re smaller and they look like competition for the landlocked salmon’s food source.
Best Selling Kokanee Hoochies
Kokanee Spinner-Hoochies
A spinner blade paired with a hoochie provides a little bit of action along with some additional flash and movement in the water to help agitate the kokanee salmon into striking at the lure.
Kokanee Wiggle-Hoochies AKA Bill Hoochies
Bill hoochies or wiggle hoochies provide action to the soft bait instead of only relying on the dodger for action. Because of this, we recommend a longer leader length. In fact, we don’t recommend shortening the factory leader at all on these. These are trolled on the higher end of kokanee trolling speeds to get the best results- 1.5-2.2mph.
Shrimp Hoochies
Shrimp hoochies are growing in popularity for kokanee fishermen. Most of these options are currently only sold in bulk, in packs of 50. None of these come pretied though, so you’ll want to be able to rig up your own lures, but its not hard to do.

About Kokanee Salmon
Kokanee salmon are landlocked sockeye salmon, which means they don’t return to the ocean and live their entire lives in lakes or reservoirs before spawning in rivers, streams, or gravel close to lakeshores. These salmon are delicious and are really strong fighters, making them a prime target for anglers, and the popularity of this fish is growing. Kokanee are a schooling fish that feed on zooplankton in the water. They tend to find where these plankton are at and then they congregate and feed all in that one area. These plankton, and the kokanee that feed on them, like to hang in water that is around 50-55 degrees, so these salmon are usually only able to survive in deep alpine lakes and reservoirs, and can be found from depths of 10 feet, all the way down to over 100 feet deep.
