The Rocky Mountain Tackle Super Squid is a hybrid lure that combines beads, a hoochie, and a spinner blade in order to offer a strong presentation and land more kokanee, trout, or other game fish.

Review of Rocky Mountain Tackle’s Super Squid
I have tested this lure on several bodies of water and have had success, most recently Strawberry Reservoir and Jordanelle Reservoir in Utah. I’ve had the best luck with pink and orange. I have caught kokanee and a few species of trout on this lure. I like the super squid more than Rocky Mountain Tackle’s signature squid. When I first get to a lake, I usually start off by running one of these and a wedding ring style lure. This lure consistently catches fish.
Now for what I didn’t like. I didn’t like the long leader that came on the lure. Nobody fishes for kokanee with a 4 foot leader. That was kind of ridiculous. I like being able to adjust and set your own length, but I would prefer if it at least came at a usable length to begin with.
Action in the Water
The super squid has flash from the spinner blade. It also attracts fish through the rattle and vibration from the beads. The tentacle strands on the squid are thin and are able to move in the water. In the video below, you can notice how when there is side to side movement, as there would be with a dodger, the strands move and sway with the movement.
About Kokanee Salmon
Kokanee salmon are landlocked sockeye salmon, which means they don’t return to the ocean and live their entire lives in lakes or reservoirs before spawning in rivers, streams, or gravel close to lakeshores. These salmon are really strong fighters, making them a prime target for anglers, and the popularity of this fish is growing. Kokanee are a schooling fish that feed on zooplankton in the water. They tend to find where these plankton are at and then they school and feed all in that one area. Kokanee fishing gear is not intended to imitate a kokanee’s food source, but rather to catch the attention of a kokanee, and provoke an aggressive strike, either by seeming like competition for the food source, or by simply annoying the kokanee. This is done by a variety of shapes, colors, patterns, and actions in the water.
